Our Heifer Station Story

Heifer Station Vineyard & Cellar Door was purchased in 2009 by Phillip and Michelle Stivens as their perfect retirement plan. Since then, the couple have never worked so hard! The vineyard lay untouched for several years with blackberry rampant and vines 10ft long. Initially, the plan was to remove the vines and to raise fat cows. Through the persistence of local vignerons, the couple were encouraged to renew the vineyard at all cost. Through thorough investigation this proved to be smart advice. The undulating vineyard enjoys the perfect north/south aspect, with rich red loam over limestone soils, great drainage and the best views in the Orange region.
The station was once part of a much larger property used by Cobb & Co as a change station for their horse teams. Over the years Heifer station was sub divided into smaller parcels of land and its history all but lost. To preserve its ties to the past they have retained the name of the station that played a significant role in Orange’s local history.
Heifer Station vineyard spans 65 acres under vine and a further 65 acres of headland and grazing land. The station is currently open 5 days a week from Wednesday to Sunday serving delicious cheese boards alongside the award-winning wines. A favourite with locals, the station is child, dog and bike friendly.
