A small parcel of Riesling was selected from an easterly aspect on undulating, well-draining, shale terroir. Off the back of 3 tough years of drought a welcome wet winter followed. The sub soil moisture was in desperate need of replenishment. With soil moisture recharged the vines powered through spring and a cool summer ensured excellent fruit expression and lively acidity in our young whites. Some early flowering varietals struggled with late frost and produced lower than usual yields which resulted in excellent concentrated fruit characters.
Harvested in the cool early morning air to retain berry freshness and acidity. Pressed and racked off heavy solids. Cold fermented with selected yeast for 18 days. Matured in tank on yeast lees.
Tasting: Mandarin blossom, lemon and lime with a generous floral lift. Crisp flinty acidity with long and silky texture. The balanced residual sweetness ensures softness through the mid palate with a clean, focused finish.
